CWN Editor's Note: Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland, Oregon, issued a pastoral letter, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.”

“Our mission as a Church, a mission that needs to be renewed in our days, is to proclaim this Good News of God’s mercy upon the world, calling God’s children to repentance for the forgiveness of sins, bringing others to the saving fount of baptism and into the Mystical Body of Christ, and constantly reminding people of all that Jesus taught us,” Archbishop Sample wrote. “This is the Great Commission Jesus has given to us, his Church.”

“This is what the Church is all about: the salvation of souls,” he continued. “In other words, we are to minister the salvation of Jesus Christ, won by his death and resurrection, to the people of our time, doing our part to help bring them to eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven.”
