International Theological Commission publishes document on the Trinity and ecology

September 03, 2026

Caring for our common home is a responsible response to the Blessed Trinity’s act of creation, the International Theological Commission said in a document published yesterday.

‘Prendersi cura della nostra Casa comune’: Risposta responsabile e fraterna al Dio trinitario“ (“‘Caring for Our Common Home’: A Responsible and Fraternal Response to the Trinitarian God”) is currently available only in Italian. The document has three chapters:

  • The common Home, work of the Trinitarian God
  • The human being in the common Home
  • Care of the common Home

The International Theological Commission is an advisory body of theologians. Established after the 1967 Synod of Bishops; it works under the auspices of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.

A commission subcommittee chaired by Slovenian theologian Alenka Arko drafted the document; the entire commission approved the document on July 23. Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and ex officio president of the commission, authorized its publication on August 21, following a papal audience.

The Vatican newspaper published two articles on the document: a summary by Isabella Piro, and a reflection by Msgr. Piero Coda, the commission’s secretary general.
