CWN Editor's Note: The inaugural meeting of the German Synodal Conference has been postponed indefinitely, as the Vatican has not approved its statutes.

The 81-member body, only 27 of whom are bishops, would have made “fundamental decisions of supradiocesan significance.” During the German Synodal Way process, the majority of German bishops supported the conference’s creation.
