“Your election is a fitting celebration of the genuinely interfaith character of biblical scholarship and of the many years of faithful Jewish-Catholic collaboration in the study of Scripture,” said Bishop Joseph Bambera of Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Saint Jerome, the 5th century Father and Doctor of the Catholic Church, stated succinctly that "Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ!" Which is also true in reverse: "Ignorance of Christ is ignorance of Scripture." I wonder if Bishop Joseph Bambera ever thought about it?
