German police protect pro-life gathering from protestors; 12 injured
August 22, 2026
Twelve police officers in Göttingen, Germany, suffered injuries from their own pepper spray as they protected participants in a peaceful pro-life prayer gathering from 200 protestors, according to media reports.
Norddeutscher Rundfunk reported that members of Tradition, Family, and Property organized an outdoor Rosary against abortion on August 15. Twenty people participated.
Two hundred protestors, some masked, responded to the gathering with heckling and loud music, leading police to form a cordon, Agence France-Presse reported. Some of the protestors attempted to break through the cordon, resulting in the police use of pepper spray.
