Unite yourselves to Christ, Pope tells Mexican young people
August 16, 2026
Pope Leo XIV encouraged participants in the Mexican bishops’ 3rd National Youth Day to seek union with Christ.
“This is a beautiful opportunity for all of you to gather together with your pastors, an occasion that springs from our communion with Christ, to show the world what our purpose in life is: to unite ourselves to Him and, in this way, by sharing in His life, to attain the holiness to which we are called,” Pope Leo wrote in his Spanish-language message, dated August 1 and released on August 15. “The title of this gathering makes this clear, for it is Christ Himself who tells us: ‘You also bear witness, because you are with me’“ (cf. John 15:27).
“Dear young people, embrace these words with your whole lives, because only by being united with Christ can we lead the world to believe in Him, even amid the problems you see around you caused by violence, indifference, and a lack of meaning,” the Pope added.
The youth event is taking place in Estadio Banorte, in the city of Monterrey. The gathering began yesterday and concludes today.
