Pope Leo calls for end to violence against West Bank Palestinian civilians

At the conclusion of today’s Angelus address, Pope Leo XIV appealed for an end to violence against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank.
“I renew my appeal for an end to the ongoing violence against the Palestinian civilian population in the West Bank,” Pope Leo said, to the applause of pilgrims in Castel Gandolfo (video, 11:15), “and I urgently call on the international community to work toward advancing the two-state solution, for a just and lasting peace.”
The Pontiff made his appeal as Christians in the West Bank face increasing intimidation from Israeli settlers.
The Pope also recalled the Mediterranean Games, which begin on August 21 in Taranto, Italy:
They will include various countries from Africa, Asia and Europe that are part of the Mediterranean region. I hope this sporting event will be a sign of peace and friendship among the peoples of this region and the entire world.
As he extended greetings to pilgrims, the Pontiff said that “in greeting the Polish pilgrims, I extend my blessing to the many women participating in the traditional pilgrimage to the Shrine of Piekary Śląskie, in Upper Silesia.” The Polish city of 54,000 is the site of a Marian shrine.
