Be inspired by August saints, Pope tells young people

August 10, 2026

Pope Leo XIV encouraged young people to be inspired by the saints who are commemorated liturgically at this time of year.

“To all of you, young men and women who are listening to me, I would like to remind you that in these days the liturgical calendar offers us some wonderful examples of holy men and women, whom I invite you to get to know them better,” Pope Leo said on August 9.

The Pope continued:

Yesterday was the great Saint Dominic, founder of the Order of Preachers; today, Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, Edith Stein, the Carmelite who was killed at Auschwitz and is Co-Patroness of Europe; tomorrow, Saint Lawrence, deacon of the Church of Rome; and the day after tomorrow, Saint Clare of Assisi, who left a life of comfort to follow Jesus, poor and humble, in the footsteps of her fellow citizen, Saint Francis.

Dear young people, allow yourselves to be inspired by these exemplary witnesses to the Gospel!
