Nicaraguan Church observes day of prayer after bishop’s arrest

CWN Editor's Note: The Catholic bishops of Nicaragua have asked their people to observe August 11 as a day of prayer and Eucharistic adoration, as they await news about Bishop Rolando Alvarez of Matagalpa, who is under house arrest.

The arrest of Bishop Alvarez, and the closing of several Catholic radio stations, marked an escalation in the campaign against the Church by President Daniel Ortega.
