French prime minister meets Pope amid furor on abuse, confessional seal

October 18, 2021

CWN Editor's Note: Pope Francis met on October 18 with Prime Minister Jean Castex of France. The meeting came as a heated controversy continues in France over the publication of a scalding report on sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, and a subsequent debate about the secrecy of sacramental confession.

[Update: Prime Minister Castex also met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State. During the meeting, Cardinal Parolin said that the Church in France is “even stronger and more determined, in full collaboration with the civil authorities,” to combat sexual abuse, but always “respecting the nature, mission, and sacramental structure of the Church.”]

I have yet to be shown any link between the two. A priest can't even reveal any certain person was in the confessional let alone what was said. This is just an attack on the Church.
