Chinese regime recognizes another ‘underground’ bishop

CWN Editor's Note: For the 3rd time in recent weeks, the Chinese government has recognized a Catholic bishop who had been a leader of the “underground” Church. Bishop Paul Ma Cunguo was installed as recognized Bishop of Shouzhou, with a July 9 ceremony in which he took an oath administered by an official of the government-backed Patriotic Association—but did not endorse an “independent” Catholic Church.
