CWN Editor's Note: Pope Francis has promulgated a new law governing the judicial system of the Vatican city-state. The law sets up a new office for a chief prosecutor and allows greater independence for Vatican magistrates and tribunals. Aimed to update the streamline the judicial system, and bring it into accord with international standards, the new law replaces one instituted by Pope John Paul II in 1987 and later amended by Pope Benedict XVI in 2008.
