Vatican authors critique American ‘Prosperity Gospel’

CWN Editor's Note: Father Antonio Spadaro and Rev. Marcelo Figueroa—who last year collaborated in a controversial essay condemning the “ecumenism of hate” among American conservatives—have published a new essay in the semi-official journal Civilta Cattolica, this time exploring the American roots of the “Prosperity Gospel.” The article suggests that Evangelicals in the US believe that the nation’s prosperity is the result of God’s blessing, while the poverty of Latin America is due to Catholicism.
