Pope questions translation of the Lord’s Prayer

December 11, 2017

CWN Editor's Note: In an Italian television interview, Pope Francis suggested that the 6th petition of the Lord’s Prayer, “lead us not into temptation,” might be translated improperly, since God is not the source of temptation. The Pope’s harkens back to an old theological controversy, which was resolved in favor of the current translation. (Contrary to some reports, the Pope did not recommend a change in the translation.)
