Mexican archdiocese rebukes Jesuits for ‘Coldplay Mass’

October 12, 2017

CWN Editor's Note: The Archdiocese of Puebla, Mexico, has criticized a local Jesuit university for scheduling a Mass that featured the songs of the British pop group Coldplay. The Universidad Iberoamericana had invited participants at the “Coldplay Mass” to “reflect on the songs” and “see how their messages interweave” with the Eucharistic liturgy. An archdiocesan statement said that priest should avoid “doing things in church that detract from the holiness of the place, the dignity of liturgical action and the piety of the faithful.”
