Illinois court: priest charged with molestation cannot sue accusers

A priest who was suspended by the Archdiocese of Chicago because of sex-abuse accusations cannot bring suit against his accusers, an Illinois appeals court has ruled. Father Robert Stepek filed suit against two men who accused him before an archdiocesan panel. The Illinois court ordered the suit dismissed, explaining that the lawsuit would have required a secular court to pass judgment on the internal discipline of the Catholic Church-- a violation of religious freedom.
