Nearly 2.5 million embryos destroyed for IVF in UK

Almost 2.5 million embryos have been intentionally destroyed in the course of in-vitro fertilization treatments in the United Kingdom since 1990, official figures show.
The Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority disclosed that more than 2.3 million embryos had been discarded. The statistics were furnished in response to a question from Lord Alton of Liverpool.
The figures showed that in the year 2014-2015, roughly two embryos were destroyed for every one that was implanted in a woman: 172,184 discarded and 84,044 implanted.
