El Salvador prelate warns against default

El Salvador’s leading prelate has appealed to lawmakers from the ruling and opposition parties to work together to avoid defaulting on the nation’s debt payments.
Archbishop José Luis Escobar Alas of San Salvador issued his appeal as the nation’s president sought approval for a $1.2-billion bond issue in order to make debt payments.
