Sistine Chapel Choir’s 2nd CD released

October 10, 2016

Deutsche Grammophon has released the Sistine Chapel Choir’s second CD, featuring works of the sixteenth-century composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.

At an October 7 press conference, Archbishop George Gänswein, prefect of the Papal Household, said that “the prince of Roman polyphony has successfully sought to respond to what the Council of Trent asked of liturgical music: that is, the intelligibility of the text united with the quality of the music.”

“This challenge remains pertinent today,” he added, as he spoke about evangelization and beauty. “This is intended to express that outbound Church of which Pope Francis speaks, a Church that is not afraid to speak the language of man and his needs, of which music is a high and universal expression.”
