Nicaraguan bishops welcome security-related immigration restrictions

Following a meeting with officials of the Sandinista government, the bishops of Nicaragua expressed their understanding and approval for immigration restrictions on those entering the country for religious or charitable reasons.
“We had doubts,” Bishop Jorge Solorzano of Granada told the Fides news agency, “so we asked for a meeting with officials in which they explained that the procedure was established for security reasons.”
“The police gave us some examples of different cases, in which US citizens who pretend to be pastors of evangelical churches or members of committees, including NGOs, arrive, but who are sometimes reported by the International Police as child traffickers or pedophiles,” he added.
