Cardinal Tagle: abortion as bad as vigilante killings
August 29, 2016
Cardinal Antonio Tagle of Manila has called for consistency in defense of human life, reminding his people that abortion involves killing.
The cardinal made his point in a radio address on August 29, as he reflected on the public outcries against extra-judicial killings. Vigilante violence has increased sharply in the Philippines since the election of President Rodrigo Duterte, who has said that drug dealers and other criminals deserve to be shot.
While he joined in condemnation of the vigilante killings, Cardinal Tagle said that defenders of human dignity must be consistent. "Why are only a few people speaking out against abortion?" he asked. "That's also murder!"
