Major battle for Aleppo imminent, says bishop
August 18, 2016
The bishop who ministers to Latin-rite Catholics in Aleppo said that fighting is intensifying as belligerents sense that whoever wins control of the city may win the Syrian Civil War.
“People are afraid,” and Christians and Muslim civilians are “praying unceasingly for peace,” said Bishop Georges Abou Khazen, according to a report in The Irish Catholic.
“The civilian population does not know what to expect for the future,” he added, amid anticipation of “the imminence of a great battle, a pitched battle that everyone hopes to avoid, because it is civilians who will pay the most.”
