Pope stops to pray with young cancer victims, elderly Polish cardinal

Pope Francis made unannounced visits to pray with the sick both before and after traveling to Krakow on July 27.

On the morning of his departure, the Pope took time to pray with young cancer victims at the tomb of St. John Paul II in the Vatican basilica.
Then, in Krakow, the Pope dropped into a medical clinic to pray at the bedside of Cardinal Franciszeks Macharski, the city's retired archbishop. Cardinal Macharski, who replaced St. John Paul II as Archbishop of Krakow, is now 89 years old and is comatose.
