Polish bishops reaffirm: no Communion for divorced/remarried

July 28, 2016

The Catholic bishops of Poland will not alter the Church's consistent teaching that Catholics who are divorced and remarried cannot receive the Eucharist, the president of the country's episcopal conference has said.

Archbishop Stanislaw Gadecki told reporters that the problems created by an illicit marriage "cannot be solved in a confessional in two minutes, or even in a couple of years." The archbishop said that while the Church should reach out to divorced and remarried Catholics, offering them spiritual support, it should be done with the understanding that "if a marriage has been validly concluded there is no ground for administering Communion to remarried divorcees."

I am so grateful to those Bishops and Priests who remain solidly firm in the teachings of Jesus Christ, regardless of today's cultural fashions.
