Sen. Kaine reverses position, opposes Hyde Amendment

July 27, 2016

Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia, the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, has reversed his position on a major piece of pro-life legislation.

Senator Kaine, a Catholic who has said that he is "personally opposed" to abortion although he votes against any restrictions on the procedure, had supported the "Hyde Amendment," which bans federal taxpayer funding for abortions. But having been chosen for the Democratic presidential ticket, Kaine has apparently reversed his position. The Clinton presidential campaign has announced that Kaine will now oppose the Hyde Amendment.
