Vatican cardinal visits South Sudan, calls for peace
July 26, 2016
Cardinal Peter Turkson, the president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, has traveled to war-torn South Sudan as Pope Francis’s special envoy to foster peace.
Cardinal Turkson carried letters from the Pope to the nation’s president and vice president, the leaders of the civil war’s opposing sides.
“The big and the crucial thing is that South Sudan must heal, it must take up all and develop and grow in peace,” said Cardinal Turkson, according to a Sudan Tribune report.
