Report: 37 nations need food assistance

The number of nations in need of external food assistance has risen from 34 to 37 since March, according to a report highlighted on the front page of the June 8 edition of L’Osservatore Romano.
The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization cited drought linked to El Niño and civil conflicts as contributing factors. An estimated 13.5 million people in Syria and 3.4 million people in Nigeria are in need of humanitarian assistance.
