Former UN nuncio given new assignment

May 02, 2016

Archbishop Francis Chullikatt, who served as the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations from 2010 to 2014, has been appointed apostolic nuncio to Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

Upon leaving the key diplomatic post at the United Nations, Archbishop Chullikatt’s predecessors were immediately appointed to positions at the Vatican or elsewhere. The Indian prelate, who once served as apostolic nuncio in Jordan and Iraq, had not been given a new assignment until the April 30 appointment.

Since 2014, Archbishop Bernardito Auza has served as the Holy See’s leading representative at the UN.
