Pope prays at St. Mary Major before trip to Lesbos

Following what has become his usual practice, Pope Francis visited the Roman basilica of St. Mary Major on April 15, to pray before his favorite image of the Virgin Mary before his one-day trip to the Greek island of Lesbos.

The Pontiff prayed before the image of Mary "Salus Populi Romani," and left a bouquet of flowers with the blue-and-white colors of the Greek flag predominating.
