Report urges genocide declaration for ISIS killing of Christians
March 11, 2016
The Knights of Columbus and In Defense of Christians have sent a report to Secretary of State John Kerry urging the United States to designate the killing of Christians in the Middle East as a genocide.
“ISIS is committing genocide-- the ‘crime of crimes’-- against Christians and other religious groups in Syria, Iraq and Libya,” the organizations stated in their 278-page report. “It is time for the United States to join the rest of the world by naming it and by taking action against it as required by law.”
“We refused to use the word in Rwanda and it resulted in 800,000 victims of genocide,” said Gregory Stanton, president of Genocide Watch and former president of the International Association for Genocide Scholars, as the report was released. “Yet when we used the word with regards to Kosovo and Bosnia, swift international action followed, which ended the killing.”
