Italian prelate calls mafia to conversion
March 04, 2016
Following an escalation in local mafia-related violence, an Italian prelate issued a letter calling for conversion.
Urging the faithful not to become “indifferent, almost anesthetized or resigned to an inevitable evil,” Archbishop Giuseppe Fiorini Morosini of Reggio Calabria-Bova wrote, “Is it not possible to stop this regression to barbarism, which seems unstoppable?”
Lamenting the “gap between faith and life,” the prelate continued, “I say with paternal firmness: we cannot sleep in peace, preoccupied only with our religious ceremonies.”
He added, “We are celebrating the jubilee of mercy: but what mercy can we get from God without an authentic process of conversion from evil?”
