UN officials, promoting abortion as response to Zika, likened to King Herod by Peruvian cardinal

February 11, 2016

Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani of Lima, Peru, has likened UN officials to King Herod because of their aggressive promotion of abortion as a response to the spread of the Zika virus.

"Today we are surrounded by Herods-- but Herods with neckties, public posts, and budgets," said the Peruvian cardinal. He remarked: "It's amazing how fast they have acted" in promoting abortion as an answer to the Zika virus, even without having established clear evidence to support the fears that the Zika infection causes severe birth defects.

UN officials had recommended abortion because of reports that in Brazil, pregnant women infected with the Zika virus had babies with microcephaly. Futher investigation has shown that only 4% of the microcephaly cases in Brazil were connected with Zika, while in other nations there has been no reported link between the two phenomena.
