Milan's Cardinal Scola warns against same-sex adoption, backs defense of family

Cardinal Angelo Scola of Milan has argued that allowing same-sex couples to adopt children would further the “dissolution of society.”

As the Italian Senate prepared to take action on legislation that would allow for registration of civil unions, Cardinal Scola indicated his support for participants in mass demonstrations opposing the bill. The cardinal said that defense of the family is essential to the health of society. He explained: “The family is the stable relationship between a man and a woman that is open to life and that bears the burden of education of children, generates life and looks after two fundamental differences: the difference between the sexes and the difference between generations.”
