Vatican security staff gets papal thanks
January 18, 2016
Pope Francis met on January 18 with members of the Vatican's security forces, thanking them for their service and their extra efforts "to ensure that the celebrations and events connected with the extraordinary Jubilee take place in a regular an fruitful way."
By maintaining public order, security officials help to provide for an atmosphere of "serenity and peace" at the Vatican, the Pope said.
Noting that the Vatican's Nativity scene is still on display in St. Peter's Square, the Pope said that the crech "invites us to protect within us, following the example of our Lady, the mystery we have celebrated." He encouraged the security officials to observe the Jubilee Year as "a time of reconciliation with God and with our brothers."
