Pope opens holy door at homeless shelter in Rome

December 21, 2015

Pope Francis celebrated Mass at a homeless shelter in Rome on December 18 and opened a holy door there for the jubilee year of mercy.

During his homily at the Don Luigi Di Liegro Caritas shelter, the Pope preached that when God wished to come to earth to save mankind, he chose an unknown town on the outskirts of the Roman Empire.

Citing Matthew 25, the Pope said that Jesus identifies himself today with the needy, the sick, the hungry, and the imprisoned. “He who does charity is the one who lets himself be embraced by the mercy of the Lord,” he added.
