Cardinal Wuerl, others urge Kerry to designate ISIS killing of Christians ‘genocide’
December 11, 2015
Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington has joined Chaldean Catholic bishops, Orthodox and Protestant leaders, and others in urging Secretary of State John Kerry to designate the Islamic State’s killing of Christians as a genocide.
“Pope Francis has called ISIS’ crimes against Christians by their proper name: ‘genocide,’” the signatories said in their recent letter to Kerry. “The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and Christian leaders in the Middle East have done so as well. We agree, and are hopeful that, once you have seen the evidence, you will too.”
