French bishops criticize government abortion campaign

October 02, 2015

The Bishops’ Conference of France has issued a statement criticizing a government campaign promoting abortion.

The campaign’s slogan is “my body, my choice, my right.”

Noting that Pope Francis’s encyclical on the care of creation was lauded by “a number of political leaders,” the bishops’ conference quoted the following passage from it:

Since everything is interrelated, concern for the protection of nature is also incompatible with the justification of abortion. How can we genuinely teach the importance of concern for other vulnerable beings, however troublesome or inconvenient they may be, if we fail to protect a human embryo, even when its presence is uncomfortable and creates difficulties?
