Pope resting during Easter week at summer residence

April 13, 2009

Pope Benedict XVI renewed his Easter greetings to the faithful on Easter Monday, April 13, from the apostolic palace in Castel Gandolfo, where he is resting after the rigorous schedule of Holy Week. At a midday audience the Pontiff told the crowd at his summer residence that the risen Christ acts as a bridge between this world and heaven. The joy of Easter, he said, "continues to resound" through the world.

Pope Benedict traveled to Castel Gandolfo, in the hills south of Rome, on Easter Sunday evening. He will remain there for a week, although he plans to travel back to Rome briefly on Wednesday for his regular weekly public audience.
