May 18, 2015
Father Luigi Caburlotto (1817-97), an Italian priest who founded the Daughters of St. Joseph, was beatified in Venice on May 16.
Cardinal Angelo Amato, the prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, presided at the beatification, which took place in St. Mark’s Square.
“Yesterday in Venice was the beatification of the priest Luigi Caburlotto, pastor, educator, and founder of the Daughters of Saint Joseph,” Pope Francis said during his Regina Caeli address the following day. “Let us give thanks to God for this exemplary pastor, who led an intense spiritual and apostolic life, totally dedicated to the good of souls.”
