The chairman of the U.S. bishops' Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development, Bishop William Murphy of Rockville Centre, calls the Obama administration’s proposal to rescind conscience-protection regulations a threat to human rights. “To take back the regulations raises a real issue,” he says, “because the statutes are intended to protect human rights-- rights of conscience and rights of freedom of religion.”
