Resist the aggressor, Ukrainian Catholic leader says in Lenten letter

February 27, 2015

Lent is a season of social as well as individual repentance, Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk said in his Lenten pastoral letter to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

In addition to discussing prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, the head of the largest Eastern Catholic Church cited a text of the prophet Isaiah (58:6-7) as he called upon Ukrainians to be “united together,” and “resist aggression” by an “attacker.”

The prelate also denounced social injustice, especially decisions rendered by corrupt judges.
