Iranian VP meets with Pope, plans cooperation on family matters

February 13, 2015

Pope Francis received Shahindokht Molaverdi, Iran's vice president for women's affairs, in a private audience on February 12.

After the meeting, the Vatican announced that Iran would send a delegation of women to the World Meeting of Families, to be held in September in Philadelphia. Also, the Iranian official issued an invitation for Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, the president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, to travel to Iran.

Archbishop Paglia said that the Pope’s conversation with Molaverdi had focused on the health of the family, and the Holy See hopes to cooperate with Iran in efforts to promote family life in international meetings. “The family is not a Catholic heritage but a world heritage,” the archbishop observed.
