India’s bishops: Christians are becoming ‘2nd-class citizens’

India’s Latin-rite bishops issued a statement expressing concerns about “a planned program that aims to reduce Christians to second-class citizens in our country.”

Citing the recent burning of a church and attacks on priests and laity, the bishops said that “the recurring assaults and vandalism against Christian targets in different parts of the country, and the failure to prosecute the perpetrators, have worsened the climate of impunity,” the Fides news agency reported.
