Pope laments attacks on Christians in Niger
January 21, 2015
Decrying attacks on Christians in Niger, Pope Francis said at his January 21 general audience that “war must not be waged in the name of God.”
Catholic parishes, houses of religious orders, and Protestant churches were attacked in different parts of the West African nation in response to European magazine caricatures of Muhammad.
The Pope asked for prayers that “religious sentiment never give rise to violence, oppression, and destruction.”
