Inaccurate prenatal tests prompt more abortions, study shows

Prenatal screening for fetal abnormalities is prompting many women to abortion their children, even though the test results are unreliable, the Boston Globe reports.
The New England Center for Investigative Reporting found the corporations that produce tests have failed to provide customers with complete information about the accuracy of the screening. The report notes: “Two recent industry-funded studies show that test results indicating a fetus is at high risk for a chromosomal condition can be a false alarm half of the time.”
