Pope mourns nephew's family, killed in auto crash

Pope Francis was “deeply pained,” the Vatican announced, when he was informed of an automobile accident in Argentina that caused the death of three relatives.

Emanuel Bergoglio, the Pope’s nephew, was driving a car that collided with a truck on a road outside Buenos Aires on August 19. His wife Valeria Carmona and their children, Antonio (2) and José (8 months) were killed. Emanuel Bergoglio was hospitalized and reported in serious condition.
