Vatican newspaper op-ed rues anti-Semitic gesture at rock music festival

August 05, 2013

L’Osservatore Romano has published an op-ed piece denouncing a recent anti-Semitic gesture at Rock Werchter, a music festival in Belgium.

Ynetnews, the online news site of Israel’s most widely read newspaper, reported that at the conclusion of a concert by Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, “a black balloon in the shape of a wild pig was released to the sky, on it a Star of David, in the company of symbols of dictatorial organizations and regimes from around the world.”

“Did they also have the right to draw the Star of David on the back of a pig and not be reported?” wrote Cristiana Dobner in L’Osservatore Romano. “Do we make laws addressing every type of phobia? We continue to talk about the respect for every religion and every human being, yet we keep falling into these shameful situations.”

One can't "rue" what someone else did, even if it makes a nice short headline.
