Jazz great, Catholic convert Dave Brubeck dead at 91; composed Mass setting

December 06, 2012

Jazz legend Dave Brubeck, who converted to Catholicism after being asked in 1980 to compose a musical setting for the Mass, has died at the age of 91.

In addition to the Mass, Brubeck -- best known for “Take Five” -- composed other music with religious themes, including the music for the entrance procession during Blessed John Paul’s Mass in San Francisco in 1987.
