CRS rapped for association with pro-abortion group
August 16, 2012
Catholic Relief Services (CRS), which came under fire in July for its ties with groups that promote contraception overseas, is now being criticized for its affiliation with a group that apparently promotes abortion.
CRS, the international relief agency sponsored by the US bishops' conference, is a dues-paying member of MEDICAM, and holds a place on that group's steering committee, notes Shaun Kenney of "Red State." MEDICAM, Kenney reports, recommends "expanding awareness on the abortion law, making people understand that abortion is not illegal so that they can seek a safer place for their induced abortion." The group has produced a document outlining proper practices for "safe abortion," and has pressed for expanded access to abortion in Cambodia.

how much longer will the USCCB stand by CRS and its cooperation with intrinsic evil? Either pressure CRS into reforming its policies or withdraw funding.

Some have suggested to me donating directly to specific faithful organizations such as the Salesians, Columban Fathers, Little Sisters of the Poor , SOAR (Save Our Aging Religious), Sisters of the Visitation (Tyringham MA), EWTN, American Life League, National Shrine of Divine Mercy - and of course, to our local parishes. I'm sure there are many more faithful orders and organizations who would use our money wisely and with great care for our Faith.

I just got mail from the CRS and it went right in the garabage. Who can we trust, what a shame this is, do I have to go outside my faith to be charitable.

How is it possible with all the concern about where Catholic dollars are going over recent years that the bishops did not know the extent to which CRS is associated with these kinds of organizations that go against Catholic teaching? Is this what Cardinal Dolan is raising money for at the Al Smith dinner?
