Pelosi says her faith 'compels' support for same-sex marriage

May 11, 2012

US House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi says that her Catholic faith “compels me” to favor same-sex marriage.

"My religion has, compels me--and I love it for it--to be against discrimination of any kind in our country, and I consider this a form of discrimination,” Pelosi told reporters on May 10.

The former Speaker of the House welcomed the announcement by President Barack Obama that he would support legal recognition of same-sex marriages. She said that the presidential announcement showed a recognition that the time is right for the move, adding, “what is inevitable to some of us is inconceivable to others.”

Last year Pelosi identified herself as a “devout Catholic” in a speech in which she opposed “conscience clause” protection for health-care workers who are morally opposed to participation in abortion procedures.

What a sad witness Pelosi is for the Catholic faith. I seems to me her Bishop should submit his response every time she opens her mouth. How very sad this woman must be to profess Catholic belief and then every time she speaks she is redefining Catholic belief.

It is time for the Bishops to get a backbone and clearly state that Pelosi has excommunicated herself with her public words and actions of support for extrinsic evils (abortion) and same sex marriage (homosexual behavior) and, therefore, is excommunicated. To notify all parishes that she cannot be given the Eucharist until she recants through confession and publicly. It is time for the Church to stand up.

Ms. Pelosi's views on life and my beautiful Catholic faith make me physically sick. Her statements test my own virtue of Charity!!

Who is this woman's Bishop and Priest? What are they doing to help her understand what she is doing to our faithful. I really wish she would stop calling herself a Devout Catholic, when she doesn't seem to know that she doesn't get to decide what a Catholic belives. Is it any wonder that a lot of Catholic's are confused when our Catholic politicians won't follow the Church's teachings . This is so disturbing, Catholic's need to vote these people out. Pray, Pray, Pray.

Pelosi and Biden are now a majority of two favoring same-sex marriage in what the media has dubbed the "devout Catholic" church. The rest of us are members of the "Roman Catholic Church" and are taught that homosexuality and same-sex marriage are contrary to God's natural law, intrinsically wrong, and a threat to the future of society. Most of us subscribe to that teaching, to the chagrin of the members of the "devout Catholic" church.

Pelosi hasn't got a clue what it means to be a devout Catholic. Her wearing the Catholic label on her sleeve actually undermines the Church she claims to love. I don't know whether that is her intention, but it is certainly the intention of her true master, the devil. What answer will she make to the Lord on that day? I fear for her soul. We all need to pray and make reparation for her, and those like her.

    Time for a formal excommunication.

In the Gospel of Luke Christ says, "He who hears you, hears me." The teaching authority of the Church - the Magisterium - is exercised in the name of Christ which ensures it with the gift of infallibiltiy. It extends to specific precepts of the natural law, the observance of which are necessary by demand of the creator for salvation. It follows that personal conscience and reason should not be set in opposition to the moral law or to the Magisterium of the Church.

She either went to sleep for years during Religion classes in the up-scale Catholic schools she attended or she was just taught wrong. As for the "conscience clause," she probably thought she was being asked if she had a well-formed one as a "devout Catholic" politician.

I was surprised that there were no comments associated with this article. Then I remembered that the staff here at Catholic Culture reviews posts and will not display a post that is uncharitable. I suspect the contents of these latest statements from Congresswoman Pelosi test the ability to retain a sense of charity for many.

Hmmm - well Mrs. Pelosi by not discriminating against same sex couples you are discrimitaing against traditional marriage - apparently for you there are no boundaries. If you have any boudaries, you are by definition, making a discrimination. To be "against discrimination of any kind", you must be against the rule of law. Do you really believe ant of this personally or do you just want everyone else to follow your words...? Are you a Roman Catholic or not?

Here it comes. The "Catholic" democrats line up behind barry soetoro to try to convince the real Catholics they should vote for him and the activist homosexual agenda. You see, it would be "discriminatory" to deny homosexuals the same marital rights as those for whom God intended marriage. Add this to pronouncements by the "theologians" from prominent "Catholic" universities who vigorously dissented with the USCCB position on homosexuality and abortion and see the Devil's hand at work.

Equal rights for gays is to be led into the slavery of sin? Pornography should be illigal and would be if this country had any sense to not let it get out of hand like it did. If so-called homosexual marriage becomes the norm, the genie will never be put back into the bottle and it will do irreconciable harm to this country like pornography and other "licenses" have done. Pelosi doesn't have a clue of what is good and right and necessary.

Where's the doorstop? Polygamy is chosen by some, polyandry by others. What about pederasty? Why do we have laws about statutory rape (opposed by NAMBLA and their ilk)? We discriminate all the time between good and evil, natural and unnatural.

We can only look to Our Lady to help this sad little Nancy, since Our Lady can appeal to women in a very delicate and heart changing way. Make no mistake, we all have a strong Advocate in Mary, Mother of God. Keep our eyes on Mary, directing Nancy down an unknown path.

Mrs. Pelosi's commitment to the Far Left agenda is exceeded only by her lack of understanding for Catholic doctrine. No wonder the country is in such trouble.
